Can't get enough (of your love) - Kim Wilde

A new phenomenon appeared in 1990: different CD-single releases for different countries. Obviously different single choices was something that had happened throughout the previous decades, but with the new format, record companies rarely made different choices internationally because the CD was more expensive to make - or so they would have it appear to consumers.

'Can't get enough (of your love)' was the second single from Kim Wilde's 1990 album 'Love moves' in Europe and Australia, although it had already been released as the first single from the album in France. In the UK, the record company went for 'Time', which I bought a few weeks later.

It's here - Kim Wilde

I don't remember clearly but this may have been the first time I ever bought a CD-single together with the other formats (7" and 12") of one title. Kim Wilde's new album 'Love moves' was announced and this was the first single taken from that album.

The title track appears here as single edit and extended version, but the B-side appears only as an extended version on this disc. I found out some time later that the original version of 'Virtual world' (which did appear on the 7") was released on the Japanese CD-single only.

Love in the natural way - Kim Wilde

The fifth and final single from Kim Wilde's 1988 album 'Close' was 'Love in the natural way', a track that might have been a massive hit with some more promotion. Not that MCA did a bad job: in the UK a picture CD was released, and in Europe this 3" CD single appeared. A collectable 7" single with a poster sleeve was also available at the time.

An extended version of the title track is the only treat on this disc, however: the two other tracks are identical to those on the album.
  1. Love in the natural way
  2. You'll be the one who'll lose
  3. Love in the natual way (extended version)

Four letter word - Kim Wilde

It is a wellknown fact that Marty and Ricky Wilde wrote most of Kim Wilde's early hit singles, but only few people know which of her singles was the last to be written by the duo. It is this mid-tempo ballad, 'Four letter word'. This CD single features the album version and an extended version, although a 'Late night mix' also exists.

'She hasn't got time for you' originally appeared on Kim's 1986 album 'Another step' and is transformed from a ballad to a dance track for this release.

  2. She hasn't got time for you '88

Never trust a stranger - Kim Wilde

Featuring an extended remix of the title track and a Shep Pettibone remix of 'You came', Kim's previous single, this attractive package was completed by B-side track 'Wotcha gonna do', a Ricky Wilde-produced corker that was left off the 'Close' album probably because it sounded a bit out of place with the rest. It's classic Kim Wilde with furious lyrics and an aggressive delivery.

You came - Kim Wilde

Kim Wilde CD singles were being released quite quickly in 1988 and I had to keep up if I was to have a complete collection, which was obviously my goal, being a Kim Wilde fan for over five years by then. 'You came' was the second single from the album 'Close' and the CD single was an attractive package, featuring two versions of the title track, both of which didn't appear on the album CD.

Hey mister heartache - Kim Wilde

'Hey mister heartache' was the first single by Kim Wilde to be released on CD, and it was quite a spectacular selection of tracks on this disc, too: the album version and extended mix of the track (both of which would appear on the CD 'Close' a few months later) and the B-side, 'Tell me where you are'. Oddly enough, the 7" edit of 'Hey mister heartache' didn't make it onto this selection, but would be released on a compilation CD in Germany some time later.

Years later, I would buy the UK version of this CD single, which features two old hits of Kim. But I think the European audience got the better deal.
