Now you're gone - Black

The third single from Black's second album 'Comedy' was 'Now you're gone', one of the weaker tracks from the album I felt. The fact that this was released as a 3" disc added to my interest, because otherwise I might have held off on buying it.

I'm glad I didn't, though: by now this version is so collectable it wasn't even listed on Discogs.com until now. The UK version was released in a 5" cardboard sleeve, but this German version comes in a 3" cardboard sleeve.
  1. Now you're gone
  2. Now you're gone (Mardi Gras version)

You're a big girl now - Black

'You're a big girl now' was the second single off Black's second album, 'Comedy'. It was another accomplished song by the highly talented Colin Vearncombe who was still using the 'band name' Black even though he was the only remaining member.

This CD-single comes with three bonus tracks, including one live track from Japan. It's one of four tracks that were released as a mini album in Japan, 'Live at the Tokyo Power Station'.
  1. You're a big girl now
  2. Enough is enough
  3. Reunion
  4. Ravel in the rain (live at the Tokyo Power Station)

The big one - Black

Unlike his previous efforts on single, I wasn't totally in awe of 'The big one' when it was released as the first single off Black's second album. Fortunately, besides two versions of the track this disc came with two otherwise unreleased bonus tracks, and they were superb as ever.

Plus they complement one another beautifully: 'You are the one' is a joyful, explosive affair, and 'Scrapbook of ghosts' is a minimal, intimate little song - until it explodes in all its beauty later on. Still well worth having.
  1. The big one
  2. You are the one
  3. Scrapbook of ghosts
  4. The big one (The bigger one)

Paradise - Black

'Paradise' was the fifth and last single from Black's millionselling debut album 'Wonderful life'. For a long time I thought this was the first single released on CD, but later on it turned out that 'Sweetest smile' and 'Wonderful life' had also had a CD single release. (Which, in turn, makes you wonder why the fourth single, 'I'm not afraid', was never released on CD.)

Released in a digipak, this CD single features three tracks, just like the 12" single of this release. There was a 7" edit of the title track, but that one was never released on CD.
  1. Paradise
  2. Dagger reel
  3. Sometimes for the asking (new version)
